Cinco-de-Mayo

Happy Cinco de Mayo! Today is also Mr. SGCC’s birthday and we’re going out tonight! I don’t know if we’ll do Mexican again or not, (we do it every year), but wherever we end up, I’ll be thankful that I don’t have to cook in this heat. For those of you planning to cook, and who live in a more temperate climate, here are some muy delicioso Cinco de Mayo ideas from the SGCC archives.

REEL EM IN WITH BLUEBERRY BOY BAIT

Tuesday, May 3, 201126 Comments

I was doing a little “housekeeping” in my photo library recently, and I came across a few shots of this amazing little cake that were taken almost a year ago. I didn’t remember ever sharing it with you before, and after doing some checking, I realized that I never …

Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Recipe and Long-Forgotten Memories

Tuesday, April 26, 201119 Comments

Have you ever wondered why it is that certain foods can elicit such strong emotions in us? I was told once that every experience we have ever had is filed away in our subconscious mind. Even though we may not remember them, they are all there – waiting to …

SGCC Rewind: Luscious Springtime Treats for Your Easter Table

Friday, April 22, 201110 Comments

I don’t know what is is about Easter time that makes me crave cool, light and fruity desserts. Maybe it’s because by the time Easter rolls around, our Florida temperatures have already crept up into the eighties. Or, maybe it’s because they look so pretty and Spring-like in their …

Minted Spring Pea Soup Recipe

Wednesday, April 20, 20118 Comments

This week, I scored some gorgeous English green peas in my basket from SunCoast Organics. To say I was excited is an understatement. I love fresh English peas! I love them so much, that I even eat them raw – right out of the pod. When I saw how …

Chocolate Sorbet Recipe and The Blue

Tuesday, April 12, 201138 Comments

I’ve been feeling a little blue lately. It’s a barely perceptible, nondescript blue, like a bad color cast, which is the worst kind because it’s the hardest blue to define. I’m not quite sure exactly where it came from either. One day I looked around and it was just …

Golden Vanilla Bean Caramels Recipe and Stirring the Pot

Wednesday, April 6, 201135 Comments

Do you have any “pot stirrers” in your life? You know the type. They’re the people who can never leave well enough alone: the ones who always find it necessary to try and create drama in any given situation, (which usually doesn’t even concern them), by saying or doing …

Just Breathe

Wednesday, March 30, 201119 Comments

Life has a way of taking us by surprise from time to time, and sometimes, you just have to stop until you can catch your breath. There have been some very stressful things going on in my life these past few months and I am trying to catch my breath. Please don’t worry. It’s a temporary thing. In fact, I’m planning some updates and new features for SGCC. Stay tuned!

Buttery Lemon Bars: A Recipe in Pictures (or What Was I Thinking!?!?)

Sunday, March 20, 201167 Comments

Recently, my editor at Creative Loafing asked me if I could put together a recipe containing mostly pictures for their upcoming photography issue. I’m a sport, so I said “Sure!”. Then, I got the bright idea that I would do a recipe that was presented using ONLY pictures. That’s …
