Shepherds Pie Jacket Potatoes

stuffed-potatoes-3

These stuffed potatoes were the subject of one of the very first blog posts I ever wrote more than five years ago. That was way back when I had no idea what I was doing. (though some may argue that I still don’t). The formatting of that old post is a mess! And the photos? Well…let’s not even go there. Suffice it to say that I’ve learned a lot since then. But, the dish itself is a great one, and definitely doesn’t deserve to be hidden in the SGCC Hall of Shame. In fact, I plucked these babies out of obscurity because they would be a perfect thing to serve on St. Patrick’s Day. Their official name is Shepherd’s Pie Jacket Potatoes. And, they’re as Irish as shamrocks!

Will You Be My Valentine (Again)?

Monday, February 11, 201316 Comments

No, I did not fall off the face of the earth. Although, there were times in the past month that I felt like jumping off. Ever since the Holidays, Chez SCGG has been a hotbed of disease and dysfunction, governed by Murphy’s Law. We didn’t even have our Christmas …

Food to Weather Storms By

Sunday, October 28, 20126 Comments

After living on the coast of Florida for almost four decades, I’ve become all too familiar with the threats of tropical storms and hurricanes I’ve learned to always take them seriously. The wrath of Mother Nature can be fast and furious, and she can change her mind on a …

A Special Mothers Day Thank You

Saturday, May 12, 201224 Comments

Dear God,
Thank you for allowing me the privilege and responsibility of being a mother. I know that it wasn’t an easy decision for you to make. In fact, it took you eight long years to make it. Maybe you felt that I wasn’t ready. The waiting was hard, …

Easter Brunch SGCC-Style

Sunday, April 1, 201213 Comments

Of the great triumvirate of Christian holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter), Easter is my favorite. While I love eating myself into oblivion at Thanksgiving, and Christmas (the gifts are nice too), I actually enjoy the fact that Easter isn’t as food-centric. I find it to be a much more …

Every year, long before the Thanksgiving dishes are even dried and put away, the Christmas rush is on. That’s when so many of us find ourselves racing around, spending money we don’t have on lots of things we don’t need. It’s crazy! One way that I’ve found to minimize …

I’ve referred to Mr. SGCC as a caveman many times over the years, mostly tongue-in-cheek – mostly. While he is usually a pretty good sport about eating anything I put in front of him, what he really craves is meat – and lots of it. Big, manly man-sized portions! …

Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Thursday, May 5, 20117 Comments

Happy Cinco de Mayo! Today is also Mr. SGCC’s birthday and we’re going out tonight! I don’t know if we’ll do Mexican again or not, (we do it every year), but wherever we end up, I’ll be thankful that I don’t have to cook in this heat. For those …

kiss the cook!

Hello and welcome to SGCC! I’m Susan, a professional writer, food columnist, recipe developer, wife, mother, daughter and sister, who used to be a lawyer in a previous life.
