Are you getting sick of my Pillsbury products recipes yet? I hope not, because I have one more to share with you. Yesterday morning, I made this super simple and incredibly delicious Cherry Cheese Danish Braid, and let me tell you - you have got to try it!
This recipe is so easy, I’m almost embarrassed to give it to you. But, it just isn’t fair for me to keep it to myself. To make it, I used Pillsbury’s Crescent Recipe Creations. You may recall that last week I made a killer Creamy Gorgonzola, Fennel & Pear Tart with this product. This time, I wanted to make something sweet. I put on my thinking cap and came up with this pastry. The whole process took about forty-five minutes from refrigerator to table, and oh, was it good!
The next time you want to impress your family on a Saturday morning with fresh, hot, cheesy, fruity pastry, try this. They’ll think you went to a lot of time and trouble, but we’ll know better!
Cherry Cheese Danish Braid (Printable Recipe)
Ingredients:
1 8 ounce package cream cheese, softened
3 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup cherry pie filling
1 tube Pillsbury Crescent Recipe Creations
3 tablespoons turbinado sugar
Method:
Heat oven to 375°F. Spray a baking sheet with a little non-stick cooking spray.
In small bowl, beat cream cheese and granulated sugar with an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy. Stir in vanilla extract and set aside.
Unroll dough onto baking sheet and press into 13×7-inch rectangle.
Spoon cream cheese mixture lengthwise down center third of the dough. Then, carefully spoon pie filling on top of the cream cheese.
On each long side of dough rectangle, make cuts about 1 inch apart from the outer edge up to the edge of the filling. Fold opposite strips of dough over filling and cross in center to form a braided appearance. Seal the ends so that the filling doesn’t leak out. Sprinkle turbinado sugar over the top.
Bake 22-24 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from cookie sheet to cooling rack. Cool for about 15-20 minutes and dive in!

Wow, did your post send me back in time. When my husband and I were first married (20 some years ago) I used to make this exact recipe. We called them “walkaways”. You’ve inspired me to make them again! They are incredibly delicious. Thanks!

Of course we’re not tired of Pilsbury posts! I am living vicariously through you because I think if I made something with a Pilsbury product, my grandma would come back from the grave and get me.

I really like Pillsbury’s dough products. They are easy to use and taste great! I have used them to make both savory and sweet treats for my children and their friends. Needless to say because of that my house is quite popular at meal times! Thanks for another great recipe!
As usual your photos came out terrific!

I saw the cherry danish on Recipe Muncher and had to come over and see how you made it. You are my hero. I am a fan of Pillsbury because I do not have the patience to be a baker. I use the pie crusts for my quiche and am quite happy with them. I think I’ll make this danish for my house guests.

No, not at all! We don’t get refrigerated dough products here though, aside from puff pastry and roti prata- I will have to make my own crescent roll dough.
By the way, cream cheese and juicy, syrupy cherries are a particular weakness of mine!!! Arrrrrh!!!!

Great recipe. I tried it last night and my son loved it. Also, if you like cherries in your recipes, I found a company that is giving away a free tart cherry recipe ebook. You can download your free copy from Traverse Bay Farms. Here is the link if you are interested: http://www.traversebayfarms.com

I am making this as a Valentine’s Day Dessert for my husband & 3 kids. My husband isn’t big on sweets, but he loves cherry pie. We tried something like this, without the cream cheese mixture several years ago at a pampered chef party. I can only imagine the cream cheese will make it better!

The recipe I use for this from your Pillsbury site also suggests to mix confectioners sugar with a little milk or water , and a little almond extract then drizzle it over the top. So good and tastes so much like the popular and expensive danish you can buy. Love the recipe as well as every Pillsbury roll recipe I have tried. Yummy!
