Okay, I’ll admit it. I’m not a big fan of chocolate ice cream. Never have been. I really don’t know why that is, because I love other chocolate things. I love brownies, chocolate chip cookies and chocolate cake. And, I absolutely adore chocolate pudding, especially when it’s homemade. But chocolate ice cream, not so much. The name of this particular ice cream, however, is Chocolate Ganache Ice Cream. I really love chocolate ganache! Love, love, love! You could put chocolate ganache on Brussels sprouts and I would eat it. You could even put it on duck lips, and I’m pretty sure I would still eat it. So of course, when I learned that Chocolate Ganache Ice Cream was on the menu for this week’s TWD, I had to try it. And, I’m glad I did.
Dorie’s ice cream is made by basically rolling two recipes into one. First, there is her decadent, deep, dark chocolate ganache, which we all know is sublime by itself. Then, there is a rich, creamy custard, which is the base of the ice cream. The two are blended together and, when churned in an ice cream machine, become melded into one glorious, velvety and intensely chocolatey mound of frozen lusciousness. Seriously, people. This ice cream is a little bit of chocolate heaven in a bowl! And coming from someone who doesn’t really care for chocolate ice cream, that is really saying something.
Oh yes. I also added some dark chocolate bits to the ice cream as well. You know, just in case it wasn’t quite chocolatey enough.
Many thanks to Katrina from Baking and Boys who selected this recipe for us this week. You can find the recipe on her site. If you’d like to see lots more of this delicious ice cream, please check out the Tuesdays with Dorie blogroll.

I lOVE your chocolate-dipped edge of the cone with sprinkles and what a perfect picture of slightly melting ice cream. LOVE IT! Your description of the chocolate ganache ice cream had me laughing and I totally agree with you. Dorie Kicked Butt creating this one.

I’m not a fan of chocolate ice cream either but you could not have made this one look any better. Simply irresistable.

I’m with you on the chocolate ice cream. It normally just doesn’t appeal to me and I have NO idea why. This though. I like.

Wow, Susan, that ice cream cone looks fantastic. Chocolate is not my favorite ice cream either. But this was so good, it’s hard not to eat it. Except that after a few bites, that was all I could handle at a time with this. I could just eat spoonfuls of the ganache though!
Thanks for churning along with me this week!

Wow, it’s good to know I’m not the only one who doesn’t care for chocolate ice cream! Like you, I love all (well, I suppose MOST) things chocolate, but chocolate ice cream was not one of them. This looks fabulous though, I imagine it must be like Cold Stone’s Ghiradelli Dark Chocolate - the only chocolate ice cream I like!

I think that cone would make anything look fantastically mouthwatering!!! Luv the ice cream recipe too! Chocolate would never be my first choice for ice cream, either. But I think if you do make it, it needs to be over the top chocolatey good! And this looks like it would deliver! Great pic and recipe! (Thanx for visiting our blog - hope to see you again!)

Duck lips? That was pretty funny. I’m not a fan of chocolate ice cream either but love ganache, so this is a must for me.

So well done, Susan! Yep, I hear you on the ganache … might be a way to make us eat the foods we’re trying to like, but just can’t get there, huh? 😉 Usually I don’t prefer chocolate ice cream either. I like chocolate syrup, chocolate chips, brownie chunks, etc. added to other flavors of ice cream for my chocolate fix. This does look amazing though.

I know what you mean about chocolate ice cream - I like it, but other flavors always get me more excited. Though I do love Haagen-Dazs’ chocolate. And I also know what you mean about ganache - obsessed!

Bestill my heart. Ganache + Ice cream? Susan, will you marry me? Okay, we’re both hetero and married to other people, but I still think I could marry someone who would make this ice cream and I’d happily serve ganache-covered duck bills forthe rest of our lives.
