DdL-duos-1

I have a terrible cold and I feel like crap, so this post is going to be short and “sweet”. This week’s Tuesdays with Dorie recipe is Dulce de Leche Duos, selected by Jodie from Beansy Loves Cake. Basically, they are sandwich cookies that contain dulce de leche right in the cookie dough, and that are filled with more dulce de leche. Dorie says that these cookies are supposed to turn out “round and flattish, crisp on the outside and soft, almost cakey and just a little chewy in their skinny centers.” Mine were round, but the similarity ends there. My cookies were not very flat, and they definitely didn’t have any crispiness or chewiness in them. They were really more like small round disks of cake. I think I would have loved them if they had been flat crispy cookies, but they weren’t – and I didn’t.

I didn’t dislike these cookies, by any means. They just weren’t what I was expecting. Besides, anything with that much dulce de leche involved can’t be all bad! I was surprised that the cookies themselves were not terribly sweet, as I had expected them to be. Because of this, Mr. SGCC actually ate a few – and liked them! Mini-SGCC liked them so much that she didn’t even bother to make sandwiches out of them. She just dunked her cookies right into the dulce de leche jar and had at it.

I thought about drizzling some melted chocolate on top of my Dulce de Leche Duos to up the “wow factor” a little, but as I mentioned earlier, I feel like crap and just couldn’t muster up the energy to do so. I did, however, sprinkle a few flakes of Maldon sea salt on top of each cookie before I baked them. It gave them a little “salted butter caramel” vibe, which I liked.

If you’d like to see lots more Dulce de Leche Duos, stop by the Tuesdays with Dorie blogroll and have a look. If you’d like to try them for yourself, the recipe can be found on Jodie’s site and, of course, in Baking: From My Home To Yours.

They look fantastic. And they also look like they would be crispy. What would you do differently to make them crisp up?

Hope you’re feeling better soon. Allergy season is already getting the best of me.

Hey yours kinda look like mine, but mine look like they do because I skipped the part that says put the dulce in the batter! I love the idea of the salt on top. They look lovely.

Hope you’re feeling much better! Crispy, chewy, or cake-y, these cookies look wonderful! It’s nice to know that despite the DdeL being added into the dough, they are not overly sweet - that’s what the filling is for. I do like the dunking idea, though . . . 😎

I have to say that even if you didn’t LOVE these, they look pretty darn amazing. And like you said - that much dulce de leche is impossible to mess up. I tend to like a chewier cookie (more like whoopie pies) so I bet I would like these.

    I hope you feel better!

I think I prefer the idea of a cakey cookie to a crispy one in this recipe, so whatever you did, I think you did right!

Mini had the right idea. The sandwich is cool, but dunking them straight into the jar also sounds pretty good.

Sometimes, doing something wrong gives you even better results. Because cakey chewy sure sounds more appealing than crunchy!

Those cookies look amazing- but I’m surprised they weren’t sweet- I would think they would be. Sometimes I like desserts that are slightly less sweet though.

Sorry you have a cold, feel better!
