coffee-pops-3

I couldn’t live without my coffee!  Seriously, I don’t just drink it for the caffeine kick, although that is a plus.  I really enjoy the taste of coffee.  And, I love waking up in morning to the wonderful aroma of fresh coffee brewing.  What I don’t love so much is that bitter, burned taste it gets after it’s been sitting in the pot for too long. Yuck!   At our house, whoever gets up first is responsible for making the coffee. Unfortunately, that means that by the time the rest of us are ready for a cup, it is often already past its prime.

About a year ago, I found a solution to this problem:  the Keurig home brewing system.  With this machine, you brew one cup of coffee at a time – when you want it.  It is fresh and hot every time.  The coffee comes in these little sealed, plastic containers called “K-cups”.  You just fill the tank with water, pop in a K-cup, push the brew button and voilà – coffee in about a minute!  There are a gazillion different kinds of coffee blends available in K-cups, so you can still have whatever kind of coffee you like.  Plus, they even have tea, hot chocolate and iced beverage K-cups.  How cool is that?  Not only that, but the machine comes with a teeny, tiny coffee filter, so don’t even have to use a K-cup.  You  can use any coffee you happen to have on hand.   Sweet!

So, here’s the best part. The nice folks from Keurig reached out to me a while ago and offered to send me one of their machines to try out. Since I already have one, I asked if they would be willing to send one to a lucky SGCC reader instead. They said yes, and so I’m thrilled to be able to offer one of YOU a Keurig Platinum Brewer of your very own!  And trust me, you do want one of these.   read more >>

Raspberry Buttermilk Pie Recipe and the Perils of Progress

Friday, July 22, 201124 Comments

Not too long ago, I had a discussion with some friends about whether or not Florida is part of “The Deep South”.  A few of us said yes, of course.  After all, it is the southernmost state in the country, so it must be.  But, one enlightened soul disagreed.  …

Coconut Fro Yo Recipe and a Series of Unfortunate Events

I have to tell you, people, I never intended to publish this post.  Ever hear of Murphy’s Law – If anything can go wrong, it will?   Well, that’s how it was for me from the first moment I decided to make this Coconut Fro Yo.   First of all, when …

Peachy Keen Buttermilk Cake Recipe

Sunday, July 10, 201122 Comments

When I was a little girl, my mother had two sets of dishes: the “everyday” dishes” and the “good” ones.  The everyday dishes were, of course, the ones we used for meals every day.  The “good” set only came out for holidays and special occasions. She had a set …

Red, White and Blue Ricotta Tart Recipe for a Tasty Fourth

Last week, I made a batch of the most luscious homemade ricotta cheese.   I do this often.  Ricotta is super easy to make, and the homemade stuff is so, so delicious.   Unfortunately, I got a distracted and left it draining in cheesecloth longer than I’d planned.  The result was …

Zucchini Olive Oil Cake with Crunchy Lemon Glaze Recipe

It seems like we have zucchini coming out of the woodwork these days!  Everyone has it growing like mad in their gardens and no one can use it up fast enough.  I happen to adore zucchini, but even I’ve been feeling a bit challenged trying to find some different …

Move Over Stella d Oro: Cherry Almond Biscotti Recipe

Thursday, June 9, 201118 Comments

Until recently, I never understood some people’s fascination with biscotti.   My parents loved them.  I did not.  To me, they were long, thick, rock-hard bricks with a peculiar licorice taste, obnoxiously trying to pass themselves off as cookies.  They didn’t fool me, though.  Whatever they were, I was certain …

From the first moment I saw these sticky, gooey, creamy, chewy gems on Michelle’s site, Brown Eyed Baker, I knew that I would have to make them.  There wasn’t a doubt in my mind.  And, of course I also knew that I would have to share them with you, …

When I spied the first Bing cherries of the season at the market the other day,  I delightedly stashed a few pounds in my cart.    Yes, I know that it’s still a little early for them to be at their peak, but after being cherry deprived for nearly a …
