thumbprints-5

I’ve been MIA for a while.  Did you miss me? I missed you.  Unfortunately, real life gets in my way sometimes and the time just flies by.  But, I’m back.  Hopefully, I’ll slide right back into a regular posting schedule. Keep your fingers crossed!

This week’s TWD recipe was chosen by Mike from Ugly Food Dude. Instead of hazelnuts, I used ground almonds, mostly because I already had them at home.  I also chose almonds because I wanted to use a lovely homemade cherry jam that I had.  I really love the cherry-almond flavor combination.  read more >>

Daring Bakers Make Tiramisu

Saturday, February 27, 2010 55 Comments

When I first learned that this month’s Daring Bakers challenge was Tiramisu, I thought “Woo Hoo!”.  At last, an easy one!  I’m Italian.  I can make tiramisu in my sleep!   Then I read something about making our own savoiardi, which are the “lady fingers” that act as the …

H20pe for Haiti and Bo Ssam from Momofuku

Tuesday, February 23, 2010 21 Comments

I can’t imagine that there is anyone left in this world that hasn’t heard of the devastating recent events in Haiti.  On January 12, the small Caribbean county was hit by a catastrophic 7.0 earthquake.  By January 24, at least 52 aftershocks measuring 4.5 or greater had been …

Candied Bacon-Chocolate Chunk Cookies

Wednesday, February 17, 2010 45 Comments

I’ve always considered myself to to be a hip and trendy kind of girl, especially when I was in my twenties.  As you get older, though, it gets a little harder to pull it off.  Still, I try to keep up with the times.  Having a sixteen year old …

Two Christmases ago, I gave my mother a copy of Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day by Jeff Hertzberg and Zoe Francois.  I’ve written about this marvelous bread baking book before.  It is truly one of my favorites and one of the most used in my cookbook …

Sweets for Your Sweetheart

Thursday, February 11, 2010 24 Comments

It’s always so nice to give (and get) a lovely heart-shaped box of chocolates on Valentine’s Day.  But, think how much more special such a gift would be if the chocolates were homemade with lots of extra love thrown in!  Don’t think you could do it?  Think again.  Homemade …

TWD: Rick Katzs Brownies for Julia

Tuesday, February 9, 2010 57 Comments

I was pretty excited when I learned that this week’s TWD recipe was one for brownies.  Aside from the fact that I love brownies, it gave me an opportunity to use this:

It’s my new handy, dandy Perfect Brownie Pan!  (Don’t scoff.  When you can’t sleep at 3:00 …

Celebrate World Nutella Day 2010 with Nutella Ice Cream

Friday, February 5, 2010 29 Comments

I love Nutella! And, I’ve been enjoying it for as long as I can remember.  As a kid, while all of my friends were bringing PB&J sandwiches to school for lunch, I was munching on Nutella sandwiches. Sometimes, all by itself, sometimes with bananas, and sometimes with another …

Another Momofuku Success: Chicken Wings with Octo Vinaigrette

Wednesday, February 3, 2010 22 Comments

Those of you who read my post last week about Momofuku’s Ginger Scallion Noodles have probably already figured out that I did succumb and buy the book.  And, I’m so glad I did!  Even if I never make one more recipe from it, it was still worth the …

Honeybell Sherbet

Monday, February 1, 2010 24 Comments

Believe it or not, the temperatures around here have been creeping up into the 70’s the past several days.  That sure is a far cry from the arctic blasts we were getting a mere few weeks ago!  Who knows how long it will last, though.  One thing I’ve …

kiss the cook!

I’m a professional musician, aspiring chef, wife, mother, daughter and sister, who used to be a lawyer in a previous life. My love of food comes from a long line of wonderful and creative Italian home cooks who didn’t always have a lot, but knew how to make a lot out of what they had. I hope that you enjoy yourself while you’re here, and visit often. read more >>
